BIO 110: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I (96 Clock Hours)

This course is the first of a two-semester sequence on Human Anatomy & Physiology. It examines the structure and function of the human body, as a foundation for nursing studies. Content includes the study of cells, tissues and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems.

Prerequisite(s): High School biology with a grade of C or better or BIO 101 with a grade of C or better

BIO 111: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II (96 Clock Hours)

Continuation of the study of the structure and function of the human body. Content includes the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Also examines the concepts of development, metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance, and acid-base balance.

NUR 101: FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING (231 Clock Hours)

This course focuses on the principles and skills that form the foundation for practical nursing. Emphasis is on the nursing process as a framework for nursing practice. Content includes the roles of the practical nurse in the promotion of health and prevention of disease. Clinical experiences focus on the development of clinical competency and application of the nursing process in meeting the basic needs of clients.

NUR 102: PHARMACOLOGY (64 Clock Hours)

This course introduces essential concepts of pharmacology for the practical nurse. Includes the use of the nursing process in the safe administration of medication. Examines major classes of drugs in relation to mechanism of action, therapeutic effects, adverse effects, and nursing implications.

NUR 103: ADULT MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING (224 Clock Hours)

This course focuses on the utilization of the nursing process and critical thinking in the care of adults with common health care needs. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for the application of knowledge and skills to the nursing care of adults in a variety of clinical settings.

NUR 104: MATERNAL CHILD NURSING (72 Clock Hours)

This course focuses on the utilization of the nursing process and critical thinking in the care of childbearing families. Content includes application of biological, social, and developmental theory in the promotion and restoration of health. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for the application of knowledge and skills in the care of childbearing families.

NUR 105: NURSING CARE OF CHILDREN (72 Clock Hours)

This course focuses on the utilization of the nursing process and critical thinking in the care of children and families. It includes application of biological, social, and developmental theory in the promotion and restoration of health. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for the application of knowledge and skills in the care of children and families.

NUR 106: PN ROLE TRANSITION (266 Clock Hours)

The focus of this course is the use of the nursing process and critical thinking in the care of clients with common, well-defined health problems. This course will assist the student in the transition from the role of student to the role of practical nurse.
